The Story of Romeo and Juliet - VERONA TIMES

Enxhi (9A) covered the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet for the 'Verona Times' newspaper... here is her article!

VERONA TIMES

This is the hottest summer in living memory and the citizens of Verona are tired and angry about the Montagues and Capulets fighting all the time, disturbing their peace and putting them in danger. Every time a fight occurs the starters are always family members of the Montagues and Capulets. After every struggle there are dead or injured people left, amongst them even innocent citizens! The question that is lurking in everyone’s mind is: why can’t they just get along? Every citizen is crying out for peace to be brought upon this city.

I am a reporter for the “Verona Times” and I have been covering the civil disturbances and fights for the past few weeks. During this period of time there have been three fights. The first fight was between Gregory and Sampson against Abram. It started by the Capulets and ended off by the officers and the Prince declaring that this was his last warning! If anymore fights occurred, the one who starts it will be executed. The second was a tragedy, a mistake which lead to the death of Mercutio by Tybalt or as some may call him “the prince of cats”. It started as a game between the two, a bloodless battle to decide who the best swordsman was, ending off with a disaster. After this terrible mistake, Romeo goes to get revenge for his cousin and so starting the third battle finishing it with the murderer’s death and the declaring of Romeo’s execution by the Prince.

Out of all the deaths the most tragic and heart-touching were the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Two innocent and young people in love. This was also a mistake caused by the late delivery of a message telling Romeo Juliet was only pretending to be dead. These two decided that death was a better choice than living without each other. This tragic romance was only made public earlier today. The bodies were taken to the Prince. The two families wanted justice. They each wanted the opposite family members to get punished when it was both their faults. This was also declared by the Prince. All this hate had produced all the bloodshed and deaths. The only way for the past not to repeat itself is if the two families start to get along.

I took the time to interview some of the family members to find out their opinion on this.
“I will miss her. I never had anything against the Montagues I even supported Juliet and Romeo’s marriage”, the nurse stated while she dried her eyes.

“Every time the fights started I was one of the few who tried to stop it. I would very much like to bring peace with the Capulets”, these were some of the words of Benvolio.

The peace and harmony depends on two of the head couples of the two different families.
“This has been a shock to all of us losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare. We all want peace now and will try to get along. This is what our children would have wanted”, these were the thoughts of the 4 parents.

Both family members of the two sides all wanted the same thing: peace. They all were now going to get along not to let this horrific display demonstrate itself again.
